About Me-
Hi my name is Chris Fietsam, and this is my website portfolio. I live in Illinois, and I am an aspiring animator and graphic designer. I graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a major in animation. I hope that any company that sees my website, and the works I have put on it, will see how creative, artistic, and hardworking I am. What you may not see is how dependable, responsible, and motivated I am to succeed in this.
Animation works
Motion Graphics-
These are some motion graphic exercises I did. They were done in Adobe After Effects. One of these are a walk cycle and the rest are abstract shapes that move along to music. I hope they show I know how to use After Affects.
Muybridge exercise-
A pencil test exercise of motion of the Muybridge images. I used 12-field paper, and an Oxberry stand. I did this project for a 2D traditional hand-drawn stand animation class.
2D Walk cycle-
This is a walk cycle that was hand drawn and animated on an Oxberry stand. This is a pencil test that was shot on 12-field paper. I did this project for a 2D traditional hand-drawn stand animation class.
2D Walk & More-
This is a pencil test animation that was shot on the Oxberry stand just like the first walk cycle. This one was also shot on 12-field paper. How it is different is the guy gestures to someone off-screen, turns around, walks, stops and picks up coin, and then presumes walking. I did this project for a 2D traditional hand-drawn stand animation class.
CEL, and Background animation-
This is a traditional animation. It is the same as the walk cycle, but this time the pencil test is finished, and hand painted on animation CEL’s. This animation also has a finished background. This was shot on an Oxberry Stand. I did this project for a 2D traditional hand-drawn stand animation class.
Lip-Sync Animation-
This is another another traditional animation pencil test, but this time it has to do with Lip Sync. This animation was done with pencil, and 12- field paper. This pencil test was shot on an Oxberry Stand. The application Adobe Premiere Pro was used for the audio. I did this project for a 2D traditional hand-drawn stand animation class.
3D Animation-
This is a 3D animation of a bird going through a flight cycle. It was a bird that was modeled, animated, and rendered out in Maya. Then the rendered frames were put into Adobe After Effects, so it can all be put together. The final part was adding in a little sound and rendering it out of After Effects. This was a project for a 3D Animation class.
Graphic Design
Vinyl cover (Front & Back)-
This is a vinyl cover design for the band Led Zeppelin. I did it for a typography class, where I had to redesign a band’s album cover. So, I decided to do Led Zeppelin’s album “Led Zeppelin III”. To design this album cover I used a combination of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and a little bit of Photoshop.
Band Logo-
This is a logo I designed for a band called Jimmy Pibbles and the Runny Dribbles. They had commissioned for me to do it. I came up with the logo idea because the band kind of has an alien theme. To make this logo I had started with a pencil, and a sketch pad. Then I moved it into illustrator, and traced out the sketch. The band was very happy for how it turned out, and I am happy for how it turned out too.
Posters-
Each year the St. Clair County Historical Society hosts an event called The Fashion Promenade to raise money for the Society. Businesses in the area will donate to a silent auction. The Society contacted me to create the needed posters/flyers for this event. I made the majority of these in Photoshop, but used Illustrator to create my own clipart.
Cookbook-
This project I was asked to work on was a cookbook for the St. Clair County Historical Society. So the cookbook would have an “historical” element they had a back story on each one of the recipes. In my portfolio I’m giving a taste of what is all in this cookbook. There were about 70 recipes that were sent in. Which added up to about 150 pages because there was an average of two pages per recipe. This project took about a week and a half to do, this is because the last designer they had ended up not being able to do it and they were under a time constraint. It took a lot of work trying to get the cookbook done when they needed it. I liked how it turned out because this was a graphic design job I was hired for, and most importantly the clients loved how it turned out.
